Hanover Valley Sunday Service Livestream - June 14th

Dear Friends,

"Better late than never" the adage goes. This week's update is getting out later than I intended. Thank you, in advance, for your patience.

I was reading in the Bible the other day a passage about Christ's encounter with a woman and the author, Luke, describes the encounter by saying that Jesus saw her and his heart went out to her or, more poignantly, he had compassion on her. There are a number encounters like this where the scriptures display Jesus just that way, as seeing someone and then responding to them. There is something in the way Jesus sees his people. He's not simply noticing them or that they catch his eye. He is looking into them and understanding them, seeing what others don't see. Seeing the lonely pain, the private hurt, the person everyone else has forgotten. He sees them. He hears them. He takes the time to pause and look and listen and engage and then speaks, acts, or gives. We tend to speak or advise or respond first and those we do that with often are left feeling like a project we're trying to fix than a person we want to know. Ask your spouse or your kids or your workmates. If we've experienced the grace of Jesus seeing us and pausing to listen and know us, it draws us out and moves our hearts to endear him. He has left us with that mission to SEE those around us, HEAR them and KNOW them so that our hearts might be moved with compassion first before we take the next steps to serve or guide or intervene.

Exciting news! In case you didn't hear the news! Noah and Sarah Trask have welcomed their first child, Norah Beth Trask into the world on June 3rd at 12:07 am. She was 8lbs 4oz and 20 inches. All are healthy and safe.Noah will be taking some time off to be with his family and surround this new little one with love and attention. Please thank the Lord with us and join us in celebrating with Noah and Sarah.

Live Stream Worship

DOWNLOAD BULLETIN

As I mentioned in last week's email and in the live stream service, we continue to desire to offer a safe and healthy atmosphere to reach out to and share the love of Christ with our community and one another.  In light of this, moving into June and beyond, we would like to offer a number of options for families to take advantage of as they wish: 1. We will continue to offer the weekly live stream worship service at 10 am Sundays and would encourage anyone to remain in their home and join the weekly service from there. You can find or share the link for the service here: https://m.youtube.com/user/HanoverValley 2. We are encouraging growth groups to meet in person, in homes or outdoors (as they may feel comfortable or desire). Also, that groups might gather in homes to worship with the live stream on Sundays together as that may desire. Locations and times and details will be developed by each group. 3. Our youth group has begun meeting at the church building and on a regular schedule that our youth director, Noah Trask, will communicate to families.  4. On June 21st and beyond, the church building will be open to our surrounding neighbors and  anyone desiring and able to worship there during the live stream service. Of course, anyone doing so will need to wear a protective mask and practice social distancing by living units while in the building and then leave promptly when the service concludes. We will NOT be providing childcare, Sunday school or refreshments of any kind. Obviously, these adjustments will require us all to be patient and loving, bearing each other's loads and thus displaying the grace of Christ. We wish to make options available for folks who may not have any other options for worship and who may desire to gather in some fashion. We do realize there is still much to be wary of as we cautiously step out to engage groups. We encourage everyone to be safe and to practice the social distancing that our health professionals are recommending. We desire no one to feel pressured to venture beyond their own conscience or comfort zones. There are still many who are at high risk or living with folks at high risk. We don't want anyone exposed to harm or unease.

We love you and are praying for you day by day. These are very unusual and trying times. It is not uncommon to experience out the normal emotional, relational or spiritual strain. Please do not hesitate to reach out to one another for help or conversation  or to me or the session to share your struggles, needs, or prayer concerns. Our Savior sees us and has not forgotten us. He is our ever present help and hope and stay.

Warmly,

Drew Derreth

Prelude

Call to Worship

Gathering Song

Revelation Song

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; holy, holy is He.

Sing a new song to Him Who sits on heaven’s mercy seat.

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; Holy, holy is He.

Sing a new song to Him Who sits on heaven’s mercy seat.

Chorus: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, Almighty

Who was and is and is to come;

With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings;

You are my everything and I will adore You.

Clothed in rainbows of living color,

Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder.

Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be

To You the only wise King. Chorus

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder,

At the mention of Your name;

Jesus, Your name is power, breath and living water,

Such a marv’lous mystery. Chorus (2x)

Corporate Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, we confess how hard it is to be your people. You have called us to be the church, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ to our lonely and troubled world. Yet we acknowledge we are more apathetic than active, isolated than involved, callous than compassionate, obstinate than obedient, legalistic than loving. Gracious Lord, have mercy upon us and forgive our sins. Remove the obstacles preventing us from being your representatives to a broken world. Awaken our hearts to the promised gift of your indwelling Spirit. This we pray in Jesus’ powerful name. Amen.

Private Confession

Words of Encouragement

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. - 1 Peter 2:9-19

Sermon - Benediction

Song of Reflection

Turn Your Eyes

O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There’s light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free.

Chorus: Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace

Through death into life everlasting

He passed and we follow Him there

Over us, sin no more hath dominion,

For more than conq’rors we are! Chorus

His word shall not fail you He promised.

Believe Him and all will be well.

Then go to a world that is dying

His perfect salvation to tell. Chorus (repeat)

Benediction

Parting Song of Praise

Turn Your Eyes (Chorus)

Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace
