REFLECTIONS
Many people pay lip service to the idea of grace, but they stop there. Their conception of grace is not so much debased as nonexistent. The thought means nothing to them; it does not touch their experience at all. What is it that hinders so many who profess to believe in grace from really doing so? Why does the theme mean so little even to some who talk about it a great deal? The root of the trouble seems to be misbelief about the basic relationship between a person and God—misbelief rooted not just in the mind but in the heart, at the deeper level of things that we never question because we always take them for granted…the doctrines of grace presupposes, and if they are not acknowledged and felt in one’s heart, clear faith in God’s grace become impossible—The moral ill desert of humankind, the retributive justice of God, the spiritual impotence of humankind and the sovereign freedom of God.

SUNDAY WORSHIP

Prelude
Call to Worship
Gathering Songs (Please Stand)
He is Exalted
He is exalted, the King is exalted on high, I will praise Him.
He is exalted, forever exalted, and I will praise His name!
He is the Lord. Forever His truth shall reign.
Heaven and earth rejoice in His holy name.
He is exalted, the King is exalted on high. (Repeat from beginning)
He is exalted, the King is exalted on high.
Friend of Sinners
Redeemer! Whither should I flee,
Or how escape the wrath to come?
The weary sinner flies to thee
For shelter from impending doom;
Smile on me, gracious Lord,
And show thyself a Friend of sinners now
Smile on me, gracious Lord,
And show thyself a Friend of sinners now.
Beneath the shadow of thy cross
The heavy laden soul finds rest;
I would esteem the world but dross,
So I might be of Christ possessed.
I’d seek my every joy in thee,
Be thou both life and light to me.
I’d seek my every joy in thee,
Be thou both life and light to me.
Close to the highly shameful tree,
Jesus, my humbled soul would cleave;
Despised and crucified with thee,
With thee resolved to die and live;
This prayer and this ambition mine,
Living and dying to be thine.
This prayer and this ambition mine,
Living and dying to be thine.

Psalm 34 (Taste and See)
I sought the Lord, and He answered me
And delivered me from every fear
Those who look on Him are radiant
They’ll never be ashamed, they’ll never be ashamed
This poor man cried and the Lord heard me
And saved me from my enemies
The Son of God surrounds His saints
He will deliver them, He will deliver them
Chorus : Magnify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name together
Glorify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name forever
O taste and see that the Lord is good
O blessed is he who hides in Him
O fear the Lord, O all you saints
He’ll give you everything, He’ll give you everything Chorus
Bridge : Let us bless the Lord, every day and night
Never-ending praise, may our incense rise
Let us bless the Lord, every day and night
Never-ending praise, may our incense rise Chorus
Corporate Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. You broke into our dying, decaying world and have begun to work healing. You have begun a marvelous and miraculous work of redemption right before our very eyes. We confess that we remain captivated by the gods of this world that promise so much, but deliver so little. We do not believe that you could be calling us to something more noble and beautiful than our own cramped personal dramas. So we settle for lives of comfort and mediocrity. We confess that we remain fixated on our own failures or the failures of others. We quickly forget that your grace is infinite. We quickly forget that Jesus came, not to call the righteous, but the unrighteous. Forgive us, God of mercy. Invade our lives by your Spirit and make us new. That we may know the joy of abundant life given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen

Words of Encouragement
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.

Revelation Song
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; holy, holy is He.
Sing a new song to Him Who sits on heaven’s mercy seat.
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; Holy, holy is He.
Sing a new song to Him Who sits on heaven’s mercy seat.
Chorus : Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, Almighty
Who was and is and is to come;
With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings;
You are my everything and I will adore You.
Clothed in rainbows of living color,
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder.
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
To You the only wise King. Chorus
Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder,
At the mention of Your name;
Jesus, Your name is power, breath and living water,
Such a marv’lous mystery. Chorus (2x)

Song of Reflection (Please Stand)
Behold Our God
Who has held the oceans in His hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at His voice.
All creation rises to rejoice.
Chorus : Behold Our God, seated on His throne
Come let us adore Him
Behold our King, nothing can compare
Come let us adore Him
Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of His words?
Who can teach the One who knows all things?
Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds? Chorus
Who has felt the nails upon His hand,
bearing all the guilt of sinful man?
God eternal, humbled to the grave,
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign! Chorus

SCRIPTURE
Matthew 6.5-15
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
